Fred Davis on Ultima Flocast

Flocast is a unique type of line made only by Ultima, it is a hexagonal shaped line which gives better casting and has a hollow centre which gives it superb floating qualities, in my opinion this line is made for the candle method.

Ultima Virage fluorocarbon is possibly the best hooklength I have ever used in Irish waters when feeder fishing!

Quite a bold statement to make I know, but I believe it to be true.Fluorocarbon lines were first marketed and aimed at Trout and Salmon anglers, but its advantages were soon recognised by the Match and Specimen side of our sport.

Over the years these lines have become better and better, and Virage is up there at the top with the very best of them.

So what makes this line so good?

Well let's look at the technical side of things first.

Virage is a ‘pure’ fluorocarbon line. As such it is virtually invisible when in the water which means the fish have little or no chance of seeing it and being spooked, all they see is your hook bait. It retains very high knot strength, up to 95%, and it sinks like a stone and lays flat on the bottom. Some lines don’t and consequently fish swim into them causing you line bites, and possibly scaring them off.

It doesn’t absorb water like normal monofilament can, causing it to become buoyant and reduce it's breaking strain when you don’t want it to, and of course it goes without saying that it has a very low diameter for the given breaking strains.

Even though it is a fluorocarbon line you don’t have to use any special knots, unlike some other lines out there, and it has incredible abrasion resistance too, something which is must in Irish waters!

Another bonus with this line seems to be fewer tangles when casting. How frustrating is it when the hooklength wraps around your main line just as you are about cast? With Virage I have noticed a huge decrease in those, and that has to good.

It comes in eleven breaking strains on 40m spools ranging from 2.1lb up to 25lb, so there is something there for all anglers be they coarse, sea, specimen or game orientated.

I have been using the 4,5 and 6lb strains for sometime now and they haven't let me down once, even when I have tied my hooklength direct to braid without a shockleader, because it has just the right amount of stretch.

I am convinced that Virage has put more fish in my net and I am sure it will do the same for you!

Ian Ktison on Ultima XT7

"This is the most highly specialised line they have ever developed being designed and made to meet the strict needs of today’s modern match/competition angler but that doesn’t mean that you can't take advantage!

XT7 has been made using only the best copolymers available and it shows.

It is very soft and limp and this makes it ideal for the purpose it was designed for, pole rigs and hooklengths.

XT7 is first made using only copolymers to create the line, but then it is coated with a fluorocarbon outer which does two things.

Firstly it seals the line and stops water absorption, which can weaken lines by up to 15%, and secondly, it makes the line softer by a further 10%.

This means you can achieve better bait presentation, which should mean more bites and you don’t loose any of the linear or knot strength.

You can see why it is such a specialised line.

I now make all my pole and whip fishing rigs using XT7 line in 4lb, 5lb and 6lb breaking strains and my float fishing hooklengths in 3lb, 4lb and 5lb and I can't fault it!

It should also make great tippets and leaders for all you trout anglers out there too."

"During December to March I normally try for the speciman chub on the river lea and the the bream on the walthamstow reservoir however the weather has been diabolical and bites have been at a premium, However I did manage 3 speciman chub at 5lb 8oz, 5lb,8oz, 5lb and a smaller chub at 3lb 8oz to get three chub of this size in one session is creditable to say the least."

"This is the best line that I have ever used, it is a true match winner, why haven't I been using this line before? I can't believe how strong it is while still being so supple. I thought my previous line was good, not anymore."

Kevin East, Vespe Army Team Captain

"Now that I have been using Power Match for about six months I have total confidence in the line. It is the best line I have used and I feel that it gives me that extra edge, whether catching small fish or larger carp, I know that it won't let me down. In normal daily use the line has not snapped on me once and I have had hooks straighten on me before the knot, or the line, gives way. How many other lines can do that? And I haven't even mentioned how supple the line is and how easily you can slide shot on the line."

Power Plus with Andy May

"I have been using ‘Power Plus’ for a couple of months now and I am really impressed with it.  My line of choice before was Maxima or Daiwa Sensor; I have now been completely converted to using ‘Power Plus’. When I went out and tested them all ‘Power Plus’ beat them in all areas: - Casting, breaking strain, knot and hook knot strengths.  Not only is it a superb reel line but I also fish it straight through for pellet waggler work in open water and its strength just amazes me.  The line also sinks very well for when feeder fishing and never kinks up when retrieving at high speed which some lines can do. The line is very smooth and so casting with it is simple, also the colour is spot on and well camouflaged in all water situations.  The lack of memory and limpness just add to the great factors of this brilliant line.  I am sure this line will continue to win me more matches and I would really recommend any angler to try it."

15 - 06 - 07 Andy May reactions on Flo-Cast

"What a line this is!!!  Since I first got it a few months ago I have continued testing it and believe it to be the best float reel line on the market.  It has out-cast anything I have previously used before and is very strong with lots of stretch in it to cushion those lunges of big fish when they are ready for netting.  It is exceptionally good for stick float work when long trotting as the line just doesn’t sink.  It is also fantastic for all types of waggler work. For the waggler and stick float work Flo-Cast is simply unbeatable also I think there is a very significant place in the market for Flocast as more and more people are beginning to use the pellet waggler, normal waggler and stick float now."

16 - 04 -07 More Reactions to Power Match Pre Release Samples

"I have been fishing with Power Match for the past 4 weeks now and I can honestly say that it is the best competition line I have used.  My line of choice for pole line before I signed for Ultima was G line, however I have been doing tests on knot and hook knot strengths and there is no comparison to Power Match.  Power Match is a lot stronger, more supple and has virtually no memory.  I have also found that the colour of the line is perfect for all waters.    Although most people will use this line for pole fishing I have tested it for both waggler and feeder and it still out performed the other lines that I previously used (Maxima and Silstar). The thing that has impressed me the most is the overall line strength and stretch ability.   I was testing the 0.20 the other day on a local water which was full of reeds. I had carp up to 20 pounds which went into the reeds but my line didn’t snap once and it even cut through the reeds!    I know for a fact that this line will win me more matches and I have total confidence in using it.  Everyone who has seen it is very impressed."

25 - 03 -07 Reactions to Power Match Pre Release Samples

"Power Match is without doubt, the best rig line I have ever used. It ties a very neat and exceptional strong knot and moving shot around is easy and leaves no damage whatsoever, I have quickly gained great confidence in it and taken fish to over 10lb on both the 0.14 and 0.16 with no problems at all. In fact, I have tied so many rigs with it that I have nearly emptied the spools you sent me."

Peter Edwards

Power Match is due at your local dealer by the end of April

"I have used Power Plus and I like it, it sinks well, I used to use Maxima but this on what I have used on it so far has made me think it is a much better option."

Enda Hickey.

More great reactions to Power Plus

"I used 4lb Power Plus last week fishing shallow for still water chub up to about 4lb. Initial impressions before use were very positive. The line is nice and soft, knots well, is consistent and has little memory. It went on the reel nicely too. In use the line was very good and gave me no problems. It sank well too without adding any sinkant. It’s incredibly abrasion resistant for such a soft line. The reason I think this is that my tip guide inner lining came out during the session. And while you could feel the line going through it against the bare metal while playing the fish but afterwards on examination there was no obvious effect on the line itself."

Gareth Purnell, Editor - TCF

"I used 8lb and 10lb Power Plus for carp in Cyprus, performance was excellent particularly liked abrasion and strength."

Robert Heath, Chesnut Pool Fisheries

Review of Power Plus line by Dave Harrell – Editor of Match Fishing magazine

"I've been using Power Plus line for just over four months and in that time I’ve found it has done everything that I needed it to and performed really well in a variety of situations. I’ve used the 0.16mm (3lb) to 0.20mm (5lb) diameters for float fishing and in the thicker diameters from 0.22 (6lb) up to 0.30mm (12lb) for feeder fishing and not once has it let me down."

"On a recent trip for eels a 13lb 12oz carp gate-crashed the party, but 5lb Power Plus soon had the fish tamed."

Steve Martin Deputy Editor tcf

"Power Plus is a very high quality line. Very abrasive resistant, diameters are accurate, great knot strength – I use it and have no complaints, has withstood some demanding casting."

Mike Shaw.

"A great new reel line, obviously the lads at Ultima have done their research, I believe this line to be the new kid on the block, it sinks well, very abrasion resistant but the real big plus is that they are so limp when compared to their sinking lines. I came 3 rd in a harrow postal match with 63lb using for the first time the Ultima line Power Plus in 8lb which did the job."

Fred Davis.

"I found the Power Plus makes an excellent feeder line, it’s very limp and memory-free, the line sinks well and the colour seems spot on. I have great confidence in the knot strength. On the whole I found Power Plus to be first rate, and I look forward to using it for other running line methods."

Peter Edwards.

"Really good stuff, beautifully limp! Lack of memory is superb, didn’t wrap-up or spin-up once."

Gareth Malham, North East Matchman and Float Builder

"Power Plus is a good sinking line with little stretch would probably last a whole season before it needed to be replaced."

Paul Wharton.

"Power Plus is excellent.Coped with the worst that Dutch waters could throw at it, and came back without a mark on it!"

Dave Mason.
