MATCH TEAM |
Angling History and Achievements: I have fished for as long as I can remember in numerous junior and senior matches including opens and nationals. I have also fished on the continent in numerous countries including Belgium, Holland, Denmark and Germany winning my fair share along the way. I loved fishing the Angling times winter league matches on the River Ancholme which really sorted the men from the boys. I remember winning a big match on the the Wolfenbuttal Canal (it was as wide as the Trent and flowing). The local Germans said it would be won by a pole angler but it wasn’t, I won it using the Waggler and I seem to remember there were about 350-400 fishing it.
Most memorable angling moment: Sitting behind the late Great Ivan Marks when he he fished a match at Frimley Pits in Surrey. At the end of the match he gave me some of his tackle which I kept for years till it was stolen!
Favourite Venues: In England it was the Trent and the Thames, great rivers to fish. In Ireland there are many but top of my list would be lough Garadice and anywhere around Gowna.
Plans for 2008 / Venues you would like to fish: I am looking forward to the All Ireland Championship which in 2008 will be held on the River Barrow in County Carlow. It should be a stick float anglers dream! Continuing to raise the profile of Irish angling because it's not as bad as people say.
Favourite Ultima products: Where do you start? Power Plus is the best all round line on the market and does everything you ask it too and never ever let's me down. XT7. What a rig line this is. It is soft and supple and is as tough as it comes. It all I use to make rigs now. Virage. I use this for all my feeder fishing hook lengths because it's an ideal abrasion resistant line for Irish waters.
Favourite rigs: First and foremost I love stick float fishing so I would have to say 'shirt button' style rigs. For feeder fishing you can't beat a good four turn paternoster rig, but don’t forget the micro swivel to attach the hooklength to!
Favourite bait: Worms and Caster. There isn't a fish swimming that won't pick them up!
People you would most like to meet: Marcel Van Den Eynde. To talk about groundbait. Davinci too, the man was a pure genius!
Favourite TV programmes: The Simpsons, Frasier and Will and Grace. Why can't English writers write like that? Anything to do with Military History.
Favourite music: That would be Glam Rock. Sorry. Slade,Sweet, Mark Bolan and T Rex, anything like that. But I also think Bat Out Of Hell by Meatloaf is the best album ever made. There isn't a bad track on it.
Other sports: Are there any? But seriously I support Doncaster Rovers.
Likes: My five dogs and eleven cats. My better half Hilary (she is my rock). My daughter Leanne. Who knew I could make something that good! My step kids Lorna and Stevie, and Hilary's cooking.
Dislikes: Caviar ( with a passion) I just don’t get it. Animal cruelty of any kind, oh and jellied eels!!!
