Half Blood Knot Essentials:
As its name suggests, this knot is simply half a bloodknot. A Half Blood Knot is used to attach end of line items such as hooks and swivels.
The knot shown here has been tucked, meaning that the free end is passed through the loop which is formed between its coils and the hook or swivel.
You can tie this knot without the tuck but the tucked version is prefereable.
Although very easy to tie and suitable for most purposes, a grinner knot which is a liitle more complicated to tie is stonger and more reliable and should be used in preference if possible.
When to use a Half Blood knot when fishing
- For the attachement of eyed hooks
- To attach swivels and lures
- Attaching lead weights
- Best suited to Monofilament and Flurocarbon
A Step by Step Guide to tie a Half Blood Knot
Step 1:
Pass the end of the line through the eye of the hook or swivel, or through the loop of the line to which it is to be joined.

Step 2:
Twist the end round the standing part four or five times.

Step 3:
Pass the free end through the loop by the eye.

Step 4:
Pass the free end through the larger loop now formed to produce the tucked half bloodknot.

Step 5:
Draw the knot together by moistening and pulling on the standing part.
That’s it! In summary the tucked Half Blood Knot combined with one of Ultima’s excellent fishing lines produces a simple but very effective aid to your fishing experience and hopefully success.
