The Stop Knot is an essential knot in surf casting and is used to make a stop point on leaders for example to trap a sequin above a hook to stop the bait from travelling up the line when casting out.

A Step by Step Guide to tie a Stop Knot
Step 1:
Take 150-200mm of nylon and hold it parallel to the main line.

Step 2:
Wrap the nylon around the mainline 4 times.

Step 3:
Lay the longer end of the tag back on top of the existing two lines and tuck back four times.

Step 4:
Moisten the knot and begin to draw down carefully.

Step 5:
Hold the two tags ends and draw tight.

Step 6:
Trim both ends leaving a small tag.
